Introduction and description

Almost immediately after the untimely death of Arthur Norman Prior on October 6 1969, his widow Dr. Mary Prior, aided by Peter Geach, went through his papers, notes, correspondence etc. They were deposited in the Bodleian Library, Oxford. David and Steffi Lewis ordered the papers not long after they were deposited. Bodleian Library now holds this material in 22 boxes, plus 7 further boxes found at Philosophy Department Library, 10 Merton Street, Oxford. (See also WWW-site for Prior-studies/Access Information).

The core of this material is made up by the first 11 boxes, since the remaining boxes mainly hold material by authors other than Prior. This document and its underlying links are devoted to the first 11 boxes. These hold, among other things, a number of important unpublished papers by Prior, as well as correspondence which in some cases bears significantly on Prior's work.

The contents of the 11 boxes can be largely grouped as follows:

Boxes 1–3: Correspondence ordered by person
Box 4: Miscellaneous correspondence
Box 5: Offprints of Prior's published papers
Boxes 6–7: Papers and manuscripts
Boxes 8–11: Lecture notes, scrapbooks, etc.

Further information on the remaining boxes is found at Box 12-21, The Craft/Box 22, Box 23-29.
